There’s No Escaping the IRS
If the IRS discovers that you have unpaid taxes due, they have a variety of means at their disposal to see that they're collected. Unfulfilled debt obligations to the IRS can be an unwelcome life hassle at best and have you facing criminal charges involving jail time at worst. The longer your debts go unpaid, and the more you owe, the more serious the consequences become.
We have offices in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, and we’re here to help you prevent the worst from happening.

How Do Tax Levies Work? Find a Path to Removal with J. M. Sells Law.
When you have outstanding federal taxes due to the IRS for a long period of time, the IRS can take money from your bank account or your paycheck until the debt is paid off.
Before that happens, the IRS will give you two written notices as a courtesy to inform you of your outstanding debts and to request payment. After you receive your second notice, you have 30 days to pay your debts before the IRS takes action.
If, after that, your debt remains unpaid, the IRS can issue one of the following:
- Bank levies: the IRS freezes your bank account, making you unable to withdraw money from it. If your outstanding IRS debts remain unpaid, eventually the IRS will take as much money from your account as necessary until the debt is settled
- Wage Garnishments: the IRS instructs your employer to deduct a percentage of your paycheck until your outstanding debts are collected
